Need some more help and guidance?
Do you need some more help to get started? If you really don’t know what to do to get started, that’s perfectly OK, that’s why I’m here to help you. Try this approach – it’s actually quite revealing and therapeutic -
Get a piece of paper or writing pad and pen, or work on your computer, if you prefer –
1. For 5 minutes write down and describe your life, your experiences so far, and your likes and preferences, the things your passionate about and excite you -
2. Choose 5 words that describe you – for example, nurturing, peaceful, welcoming, understanding, likable, popular, unconventional, daring, adventurous, bold –
3. Then go about and find styles and items that fit the description you’ve just outlined -
Also, here’s another approach you can try –
For 5 minutes write and describe your home or your room that you’re wanting to decorate - as it is currently.
1. Then think of a house, home, room, or place in the past (recent or distant) where you have really felt good, enjoyed and loved being there –
2. Choose 5 adjectives to describe that place – for example, peaceful, tranquil, comforting, radiant, enlivening, exciting, like being in nature, by the sea –
3. Then go and find items that make you feel that way -
This process is really all about discovering, unfurling (like peeling the layers of an onion), and expressing who you are.
Remember, the difference between a house and a ‘home’ is that a house is just bricks and mortar. A ‘Home’ reflects you, and the people who live there - the atmosphere, the coziness, the individuality that is you. The house you live in should become the 'Home' you absolutely love to be in - through your own creativity and expressions.
Author and Poet, Dr. Maya Angelou, says about people – ‘It’s not what you say or what you do that people remember … it’s the way you make them ‘feel’.
The same is true of a home decorated with your unique personality and style – one that you share with all who come into and ‘feel’ its space, energy and ambience …
